Road closure will be next month
There will be a temporary road closure in the Drumshanbo area next month, in order for Leitrim County Council to fell dangerous trees.
The closure will take place on the L-73141-0 in Gortnawaun, Drumshanbo from 11th May to 29th May (inclusive).
Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, local councillor Brendan Barry said that he believes the road closure will be for a shorter timeframe.
“I don't think that closure will be in place for as long as the dates outlined. The council are allowing a wide enough window for the work to be done,” he stated.

The notice from the council states that “there are no alternatives but local access will be provided.”
“I don't think that there will be any disruption involved,” the Sinn Fein representative added.
Cllr Barry welcomed the action being taken by the council. “It is good to see action being taken. There are dangerous trees right across the county,” he commented.
The notice from the council also stated: “Any persons aggrieved by this proposal to close the roads described, may lodge an objection with the Director of Services for Economic Development, Regeneration, Sustainable Transport and Emergency Services, Leitrim County Council, Aras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim on or before 16:00 on Monday 20th April 2026.
The closure comes under the Roads Act 1993/Temporary Closing of Roads.
