Call for more Council outdoor staff to be employed

Cllr Enda Stenson has asked that more outdoor staff be employed by Leitrim County Council noting “there are not enough staff on the ground”.

Director of Service, Joseph Gilhooly, said that the roads allocation has been increased by 20% this year and the roads department is very busy as a result. Funding has also been allocated for Local Improvements schemes this year adding to the workload.
At present a review of resources is underway in the roads division of the Council.
“We will be looking at what resources are needed for in the years ahead.”
“We are aware that we have a lot of works to deliver this year and that this will be particularly challenging,” admitted Mr Gilhooly.

“During the rest of this year we will be looking at what resources are needed for in the years ahead. We have to be cognisant of the amount of funding we will have available to us in the future.”
Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council, Lar Power, admitted: “it is in our interest to replace any outdoor staff who leave. We are very conscious of the levels of all staff here.”
