SEAI One good Idea

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is encouraging students from Leitrim primary and post primary schools to enter this year’s SEAI One Good Idea competition.

Students are asked to come up with creative energy awareness campaigns that will inspire people around them to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The competition encourages students, their families and communities to take individual and collective responsibility for tackling these important issues.

To mark the launch of this year’s competition, posters developed by the 2018 winning teams were showcased ahead of a national outdoor advertising campaign.

SEAI One Good Idea is now entering its 11th year and commenting on its impact to date, Jim Gannon, Chief Executive of SEAI said, “In the last decade, over one million people in Ireland have been reached by the projects put together by 7,500 inspiring schoolchildren. These campaigns have changed how individuals use energy in so many ways. This ranges from businesses becoming more aware of plastic waste and food miles, students and their families reducing shower times and communities opting for car-pooling to schools and GAA games. The ideas are endless. We want to continue to encourage our future leaders as they generate these ideas and share them in our communities, so more people take climate action by using less energy and using clean energy.”

Participating students have the chance to win prizes for themselves and their schools. Awareness campaigns can cover energy use at home, at school, for transport, energy related purchases and renewable energy. Schools can enter the competition at www.seai.ie/onegoodidea, where they can also see the 2018 winning campaigns.

Closing date for entries is 16 November 2018. The best projects will be showcased at the national finals in Dublin Castle on 14 May 2019.
