New look Leitrim Observer in shops tomorrow

Tomorrow’s Leitrim Observer has a fresh look. It’s the result of much hard work and includes a number of new features and columns we hope you’ll enjoy.
Founded in 1889 by the Mulvey family, the paper has been refreshed many times down through the decades – as illustrated by our special feature on pages 14-15. This latest redesign arrives as we prepare to celebrate 130 years of publication.
The refresh has been approached with the specific intention of making the paper more accessible and attractive for the reader.
We have introduced some new sections, which are colour-coded for your convenience.
Our general news pages at the start of the paper have red folios and they’re followed by a new opinions spread called Views. The latter includes a weekly column, This Leitrim Life. The current Leitrim Person of the Year, Seamus O’Rourke, will write the column on the first Wednesday of every month – you can read him on page 23 this week. Columnist and former Leitrim footballer Colin Regan will appear on the second Wednesday, with senior Observer journalists writing in the second half of each month.
The new Community section (green folios), carries all the news and notes from every corner of the area the Observer is proud to serve. This section is something of a ‘paper within a paper’.
Leitrim Life (purple folios) includes our entertainment coverage, plus several new features including columns from our journalists Leonie McKiernan and Fiona Heavey. There’s a weekly slot called My Leitrim Life, in which well known locals tell us their favourite things about Leitrim. First up is bestselling crime author and Ballinamore man, Paul Williams.
Internationally acclaimed sportswriter David Walsh may not be a Leitrim man, but he cut his teeth at the Observer and retains a great fondness for the county. Appointed editor at the age of just 23, he reflects on those early days in a great piece on page 10. Don’t miss it.
We've also enhanced the paper’s business coverage and regular features such as Farming and Schools pages.
