Charlie McGettigan

Drumshanbo based singer-songwriter Charlie McGettigan is to receive the Freedom of County Donegal in a special ceremony due to take place in April.

A motion proposing the honour was made at last week’s meeting of South Donegal councillors to mark the 25th anniversary of McGettigan and Harrington winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

The pair won the eurovision in 1994 with Rock and roll Kids. Last year McGettigan called for a boycott on the Eurovision which was held in Tel Aviv, Isreal.

Charlie was born in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal but now lives with his family in Drumshanbo.
