Dog fouling awareness
Carrick-on-Shannon Tidy Towns volunteers have highlighted what is a major problem in the town with dog fouling "everywhere around the town."
"We took the decision to highlight the fouls with bright temporary spray paint. We are working closely with the dog warden," a spokesperson said.
"There are free dog poo bags throughout the town in case dog walkers forget their own and we are appealing to owners to “Bag it and Bin it,” responsibly, in to any bin.
"The dangers of dog poo lays in the fact that it is full of bacteria that can cause cramps, diarrhoea, intestinal infections and kidney disorders. Apart from the mess it causes on shoes, wheelchair wheels, buggies, prams, bicycles etc. it is unsightly and lets face it - disgusting."
On a brighter note to end on, they are looking for people to join Tidy Towns Carrick-on-Shannon.
"If you have an interest in our lovely town or the environment /biodiversity or indeed any of the 8 categories of the competition, “There is a place for Everyone.”
"We are only 10 marks behind the 2021 winner Ennis. You don't have to come out every week but the more people we have the more we can do and we have big plans for 2022 with lots of outdoor activities and many other projects.
