Leitrim homes to benefit from retro fit grants

Leitrim homes to benefit from retro fit grants

Examples of retrofit grants

Local TD and Minister of State Frank Feighan has said that the boost in home energy upgrade supports
agreed by the Cabinet will see tens of thousands of homes benefit from the scheme, people in Leitrim have access to information on the grants through Leitrim Warmer Homes based in Drumshanbo.

The Government are set to provide funding to cover up to half the cost, approx €25,000, of a deep-retrofit.
Minister Feighan told the paper, “There will also be significant support offered to homes that choose to carry out smaller-scale home upgrades, this will include attic and cavity wall insulations, and Government will offer up to 80% of these costs.
“For instance, in the case of a semi-detached home, the attic insulation grant will increase from €400 to €1,300 and the cavity wall insulation grant will increase from €400 to €1,200.

“ It is expected that these works will pay back in 1-2 years in most houses.” Deputy Feighan said, “This advice is readily available now in some counties in this region including Leitrim Warmer Homes based in Drumshanbo.
“Moreover, this plan will allow hundreds of low-income households benefit of free energy upgrades every month, ensuring that we are providing upgrade options for every home in Ireland.”
“If we are to achieve our goals of seeing 500,000 homes retrofitted and 400,000 heat pumps installed by 2030, we need to encourage take-up,” Minister Feighan concluded.

Dr Bláithín Gallager, Green Party Executive Committee and Constituency Spokesperson told the paper, “I am really delighted with this news. This plan of practical, affordable support for retrofitting homes will have long lasting very positive consequences.
“The multifaceted approach taken here, led by Green Party Minister Eamon Ryan means that people can access the necessary finance, grant support and even undertake the process in smaller steps, thereby staging their outlay to suit their pockets. People will enjoy greater comfort in their homes while simultaneously seeing their expenditure on energy reduced. This support is part of the Green party's aim for a just transition.
“Retrofitting will reduce the usage of fossil fuel generated energy and will help deliver on the reduction needed in our emissions, steps needed to help mitigate climate change."
