Leitrim County Council has issued advice to the public ahead of Storm Boelo.
“Leitrim County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team have met a number of times in recent days and preparations have been made to deal with the potential impacts of the upcoming Storm 'Boelo',” a statement from the council has said.
“The Council will continue to issue weather warnings and updates over the weekend via its social media channels. The Severe Weather Assessment Team will meet over the weekend and assess any impacts. Emergency crews will be on hand to deal with any issues that arise,” the statement added.
The council then issued the following advice to the public:
- Stay informed through Met Éireann and local authority channels and adjust your travel plans if necessary.
- Motorists should be alert for fallen trees, debris and difficult driving conditions. Check with transport operators when planning journeys.
- Never attempt to drive through flooded roads and allow extra time for essential travel.
- Expect surface water, debris and poor visibility.
- Do not bypass Road Closed signs – the road ahead is unsafe, the damage may be hidden beneath water, and you may be putting your life at risk.
- Secure any loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines and temporary structures
