Great success for Trident Swim Club

Trident Swim Club is Carrick-on-Shannon’s newest Swim Ireland swim club, and is already notching up some amazing successes.

Despite only forming earlier this year in response to calls for a more competition-focussed club, Trident is already making an impact at national level with Connacht Squad swimmer Gabriella Weaver (14) taking gold at the National Aquatic Centre and qualifying for the Irish Short Course National Championships in Lisburn recently.

Gabriella, from Elphin, was competing alongside the likes of Olympian Sycerika McMahon in the 100m freestyle and went on to take 8th place in the 50m breast stroke event, as well as achieving significant personal bests in all her other qualifying events.

Trident Swim Club is open to all levels of competent, young swimmers, whether preparing to take part in competition for the very first time, or aiming to qualify for national and international events. We aim to provide our members with the tools required to improve and enhance their existing swimming skills and to coach them in all aspects of successful swimming. The club currently trains at Aura Leitrim Leisure and offers a variety of sessions covering overall fitness improvement to skills-based sets. Our coaching team has a broad spectrum of qualifications and abilities, with experience in land-based training, injury prevention, technique improvement as well as speed and endurance training.

Trident members range in age from 8 to 17 years, and take part in swimming for a variety of reasons. Some are looking to improve their fitness in a friendly and competitive environment, others are aiming for community games success. Many members are training for biathlons or Pony Club tetrathlon, whilst some are focussed on swimming success at the highest level.

Swimmers from Trident were invited by international coach Seb Locteau to take part in the annual Santa Dash Gala in Claremorris last weekend. Trident would like to thank Seb and we look forward to coming back next year with more swimmers. We also held their inaugural Christmas party last weekend with an outing to the Mulvey Centre to take part in a bowling challenge.

If you would like more information about Trident Swim Club or wish to organise a free, no-obligation trial session for your child, please call 086 859 4497. To all our members and their parents, thank you for your support during 2012 and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Swimming finishes on Friday, December 21, and will start back week commencing Monday, January 7, 2013.
