One Leitrim candidate has had a less than successful day at the mart, but hopes for a more fruitful evening as the polls are expected to roll in.
Fianna Fáil candidate, Paddy Farrell from the Carrick-on Shannon LEA, had a Limousin bull on sale at the mart in Carrick this Saturday, but it is reported to have not gone in his favour.
The Farmers Journal reported that the former councillor didn’t get to the reserve on his animal as it remains unsold at €2000.
Mr Farrell is currently polling at 12% after the Carrick-on-Shannon tallies have been counted.
As of 7.20pm this Saturday evening, the first count is still underway at the Landmark Hotel.
Returning Officer, Mary Quinn, has asked candidates in the Carrick-on-Shannon LEA to go to the bar area to look over the 'questionable' votes.
She quickly clarified it was the "closed" bar area.
