RIP: Community remembers ‘friendly’ Leitrim woman with ‘a wonderful smile’

Tributes have been flooding in following the passing of a Leitrim woman on November 14, described as a “beautiful woman.”

Mary Jane (Mai) Redican (née McGoey) of Drumroosk North, Fenagh, and formerly of Stracklerin, Mullies, passed away peacefully in the exceptional care of the staff at Ballinamore Community Nursing Unit, surrounded by her loving family.

Mai is predeceased by her devoted husband Seamus, her parents Patrick and Catherine, and her brother P.J. McGoey.

Tributes paid on RIP.ie have reflected the kind of person Mai was. “Mai was a beautiful woman, kind and friendly to everyone. She was a great neighbour and will be sadly missed,” one condolence said.

Mai has also been remembered for her words of wisdom through the years. “My heartfelt sympathies on the death of Mai. She was such a thoughtful, caring, kind lady and it was always a great joy to meet her and have many memories of her advice and loyalty. She was so very proud of you all,” read another condolence.

Her funeral mass took place on Sunday, November 16, in St Mary’s Church, Foxfield, followed by burial in Fenagh Abbey Cemetery.

“Mai was a beautiful lady, always so friendly and with a wonderful smile. May her gentle soul Rest In Peace,” read one tribute, while another described her as “a very valued member of the parish community.”
