The annual North Leitrim Glens Hill Walking Festival is set to start on Easter Saturday

Easter hill walking festival is expecting big numbers this year

The hills of Leitrim will be alive this Easter as walkers come from far and near for the annual North Leitrim Glens Hill Walking Festival, located in the beautiful village of Dromahair.

Thes Easter Hill Walking Fetival takes place from March 30 to March 31.

On Easter Saturday, walkers will take a track up to Keelogyboy Mountain and enjoy fine views of Lough Gill and Ballisodare Bay before descending to Lough Sramore.

Sunday's walk will start on the Greenway in Dromahair, going along the former SLNCR (Sligo Leitrim Northern Counties Railway), taking in Creevelea Abby, the former Franciscan friary before reaching the jetty for Innisfree Island, the island made famous by Yeats's poem, The Lake Isle of Innisfree.

Walkers in the mood for great music on Easter Saturday night can head to The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, to hear Ashley Campbell, daughter of country legend Glen Campbell, sing with Thor Jensen, a virtuoso guitarist and songwriter from New York.

"There's been great interest in the festival this year; we have a loyal following with many people returning each year; already, our medium walk on Saturday is booked out, but we still have places on the long walk and also for Sunday walk and hopefully, the sun will shine!", said Nóirín Clancy, Festival Committee member.

Registration for all walks will take place at The Riverbank Restaurant, Dromahair.

Refreshments are available before and after the walks. People can also enjoy an evening meal following the long and medium walk on Saturday.
