Cllr Fallon asked that council that endorse reports that show Israel is committing the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people
Cllr Padraig Fallon noted that last month, Sligo County Council became the 14th Irish Local Council to vote to support Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, which is a nonviolent Palestinian-led movement promoting boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions against Israel since 2018.
He asked that the Manorhamilton municipal district "endorses the reports by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories that show Israel is committing the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people; and further noting that the United Nations has declared apartheid a crime against humanity under the ‘The International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid’.
"This Council, in line with our commitment to the principles of international law, declares itself an Apartheid Free Zone, and in doing so, fully supports and endorses the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement for freedom, justice and equality.”He asked that the motion was sent from the district to the full council meeting. "Things have changed; the situation there is dire."
