"This reply is totally unacceptable," said Cllr Justin Warnock at the latest Manorhamilton municipal district meeting where he asked the roads department to seek funding under the low cost safety scheme for traffic calming measures on the southern approach to Kinlough at Dartry View and in the interim to move the flashing speed sign to that location."

A report by the Roads office said that low cost safety measures are already in place at this location and will be reviewed and that Leitrim County Council will liaise with An Garda Síochána regarding policing of the speed limit at that location.

Cllr Warnock said that motorists coming into Kinlough from the Manorhamilton side "are on top of the village before you know it and Dartry View is on the right-hand side and the cemetery, football pitch and community centre on the left-hand side. Something needs to be done before someone is killed," he stated.

He said there are "many little exits from that estate onto the main road and children are crossing to the football pitch and community centre and cars are coming down there at a very high speed."

He noted that there was a speed van at this location for "years but now there is nowhere to park there so it's open season and needs to be dealt with. There's a flashing speed sign that you nearly pass before you see it. It needs to be brought further towards Manorhamilton."

Cllr Felim Gurn seconded the motion.
