There will be a range of activities taking place in libraries across County Leitrim this Saturday 28 September for National Public Libraries Open Day.

On Saturday, existing library members and non-members are encouraged to visit their local public library and explore the myriad of free services on offer.

Speaking at the launch of the National Public Libraries Open Day, Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys said: "National Public Libraries Open Day is a unique opportunity for us to promote library services and celebrate their role in Irish life.

"Ireland’s public libraries have a proud history in the heart of our communities, supporting people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Our libraries bring people together. They help people to go on literary and recreational journeys, to use their imagination and unwind."

Another eco-friendly event is planned in Kiltyclogher Library where there will be a talk entitled 'Sustainable Energy For Communities' by Seamus Dunbar, the chairperson of the North Leitrim Sustainable Energy Community, at 12pm.

Ballinamore Library will be hosting a Food Waste Workshop at 11am. The library's local studies librarian will also be taking one on one bookings from 10am to 1pm.

For any little ones interested in arts and crafts, there will be an Arts and Crafts Workshop with Hannah in Carrigallen Library at 11am.
