Approval for second floor apartments at Bank of Ireland Carrick-on-Shannon

Council issue decision with five specific conditions that must be met before full permission is granted.

Application submitted to convert Bank of Ireland office into apartments in Leitrim

Bank of Ireland, Carrick-on-Shannon

Leitrim County Council has given conditional approval for the redevelopment of the second floor of the Bank of Ireland building in Carrick-on-Shannon. The planning application (Ref: 2460162) seeks to convert the existing office space into residential units, consisting of three two-bedroom apartments and one studio apartment. The council issued its decision on October 1, 2024, with five specific conditions that must be met before full permission is granted.

These conditions are likely related to compliance with building regulations, preservation of the building's historical character, and other environmental or community concerns. While the council's decision marks a significant step forward for the project, the developers must address these requirements before construction can proceed.

The project also includes alterations to the building's external facades, but it will not be fully approved until a formal grant order is issued by the council. Currently, the "Grant Date" and "Grant Manager's Order" details are pending, as the council awaits fulfillment of the conditions.

This development reflects a growing trend of adapting historic buildings for modern residential use, adding much-needed housing in Carrick-on-Shannon's town center. Once the conditions are satisfied and the grant order is issued, the transformation of this building can begin, contributing to local housing supply and the town's ongoing revitalization efforts.
