Bank of Ireland, Carrick-on-Shannon
Leitrim County Council has received a planning application to convert the second floor of the Bank of Ireland building in Carrick-on-Shannon from office space into residential apartments.
The applicant has proposed converting the second floor into a total of four apartments.
This includes three two-bedroom apartments and one studio apartment. The building requires no change to its utilities or infrastructure, and the proposal doesn’t include any changes regarding access of the building or systems for handling sewage, surface and drinking water.
The current office space requires 10 parking spaces based on its size, however the planning application states only six would be needed for the proposed apartments.
Additionally, seven bike parking spaces would also be sought for the apartments, in line with the current county development plan.
The proposed apartments would have access to the existing bin storage area at the back of the building for refuse.
Regular waste collection would be handled by Barna Waste, with bins provided for general, recyclable and food waste, all emptied once a week.
Given the central town location of the proposed apartments, the applicant believes they are ideally suited for single professionals working in the area.
While outdoor space isn’t possible and some living areas are smaller than ideal, the proposed design maximises the available floor space to ensure that the kitchens and living areas are as spacious as possible while still providing ample bedroom space.
A decision on the project is due in October.
