Corry Strand on Lough Allen, near Drumkeerin, could be considered for inclusion in the Outdoor Recreational and Infrastructure Scheme when it reopens later this year.

Enhancement and improvement works for Corry Strand on Lough Allen may be considered under the Outdoor Recreational and Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).

Cllr Mary Bohan proposed that Manorhamilton MD explore potential funding opportunities for upgrades at Corry Strand in consultation with the local community.

“It’s an amenity on our doorstep and we’re concentrating a lot on bringing children outdoors and making use of local amenities,” Cllr Bohan said.

She emphasised the opportunity to work with the local community to enhance the existing facility.

A response from the Roads department stated that while works could be considered under ORIS, the scheme is currently closed for 2024/2025.

However, a further announcement on the scheme is expected later this year, or early next year, raising hopes that Corry Strand could be included.y

Cllr Bohan also put forward a motion requesting information on the number of Local Improvement Schemes (LIS) expected to be completed in Manorhamilton MD this year.

She was informed out of 152 LIS schemes across Leitrim, 44 are in the Manorhamilton MD.

In response the Roads department stated, “Tenders for surfacing contracts are still due and will help inform how many schemes can be completed with the first tranche of LIS funds.

“The district office is anticipating completion of three LIS schemes with the first LIS allocation in 2025, it is not yet known if a second LIS allocation will be made available to Leitrim County Council in 2025,” the response said.
