Leitrim secures major funding boost for Housing Adaptation Grants

Leitrim County Council has been allocated a total of €1,368,134 under the Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and Disabled People.

This includes €1,162,948 in central Government funding, with an additional €205,226 coming from Leitrim County Council’s own resources.

The funding will support the continued delivery of grants that enable older people and individuals with disabilities in Leitrim to live independently in their homes.

Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan has welcomed the announcement. “The increased level of funding available in 2025 will continue to ensure delivery of these vital grants and empower local authorities to further assist older and disabled individuals,” Deputy Feighan said.

“Having dealt with many grant recipients across Leitrim, I've witnessed first-hand the remarkable difference they make in empowering older and disabled individuals to live independently at home for longer and within their own local community,” he added.

The funding forms part of a nationwide allocation of €117 million for the scheme, announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne, Minister with responsibility for Older Persons Kieran O’Donnell, and Minister with responsibility for Local Government and Planning John Cummins.

The overall funding is a 26 percent increase on the 2024 allocation.

Improvements have also been made to the grants. The maximum level of the Housing Adaption Grant for Disabled People has increased to €40,000 (an increase of €10,000).

The maximum Housing Aid for Older People Grant has risen to €10,700 (an increase of €2,700).

Meanwhile, the Mobility Aid Grant now has a maximum level of €8,000, up €2,000 from the previous limit.
