Twelve Parent and Toddler Groups in Leitrim will receive funding of €11,300, to be distributed among them.
The funding falls under First 5, the Whole of Government Strategy for Babies, Young Children and their Families. Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley TD, announced the funding on June 20. In total, 461 Parent and Toddler Groups nationwide will receive funding amounting to €421,618.
Parent and Toddler Groups are informal community-based groups that provide opportunities for young children and their parents or guardians to meet.
The funding may be used for a range of purposes, including children’s toys, equipment, and books, as well as refreshments and snacks. It can also support children’s activities such as arts and crafts and music. In addition, parents can be supported through parenting courses and first aid courses for children.

In February, the Minister announced secured funding of €350,000, an increase of €100,000 on last year’s allocation.
However, with demand continuing to grow, an additional €70,000 in funding was secured, bringing the total budget to €421,000.
This increased funding has enabled grants to be allocated to 461 Parent and Toddler Groups this year, 66 more than last year, when 395 groups received support.
In neighbouring counties, €7,328 will be allocated to eight Parent and Toddler Groups in Sligo, while €26,730 will go to 28 groups in Donegal.
