South Leitrim residents warned of bogus callers following suspicious activity 

Residents in south Leitrim have been warned by Gardai about the danger of bogus callers following reports of sus[icious activity in the area.

Gardaí warn public to be vigilant following recent bogus caller incidents

Gardaí in Leitrim have issued a warning to the public following reports of suspected bogus callers in the Gorvagh and Mohill areas.

A grey Renault Trafic van was observed in the locality with occupants offering cleaning and repair services, and seeking cash in advance.

Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

In a community alert shared with the Ballinamore, Aughnashellin, Keshcarrigan and Fenagh areas, Gardaí said:

“Grey Renault Trafic van seen in Gorvagh/Mohill area offering cleaning/repair services. Looking for cash advances.”

Gardaí advise householders not to engage with such callers.

“Don’t open your door to anyone before you are confident they are known to you or that they have a genuine reason to be there. Use a chain lock for added security. Bogus callers can be intimidating and often refuse to take no for an answer.

“Contact Gardaí immediately should you encounter such a caller and try to give as much information as possible, including a description of the person, vehicle registration number and direction of travel.”
