Calls were made to urgently address a flooding issue on the rural road L4246-0, between the R280 and Tawnylea, amid repeated occurrences of flooding.

Cllr Pádraig Fallon raised the matter at a meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, noting that the road flooded again over the weekend. He said it is the third time in approximately five or six weeks that the road has flooded, and it has happened around six times over the past 12 months.

He expressed concern that access to a house is at risk due to the flooding, stating, “I don’t know how those vehicles would get through it,” in reference to emergency vehicles if they were ever needed.

Senior engineer Paul McMahon acknowledged the issue, commenting, “there’s no doubt that there’s an issue.” He added that the location will be assessed by MD staff to determine the extent of the works required.

Cllr Fallon also requested that Manorhamilton MD undertake works to replace a damaged rail fence on Creamery Road in Manorhamilton, and sought traffic calming measures, including speed limit signage and road markings. “We need to ensure the safety of pedestrians in all our towns and villages,” he said.

A replacement pedestrian barrier has been ordered for Creamery Road, and the location is being considered for Low Cost Safety Scheme funding in 2026.
