RIP: Leitrim community pays its respects following the passing of ‘a true gentleman and a great character'

Condolences have poured in for “a true gentleman,” John Harrison of Mountain View, in Drumshanbo, and formerly of Pensby, Wirral, England.

John passed away unexpectedly last Sunday at University Hospital Sligo, aged 86 years, following an undetected illness.

He will be sadly missed and remembered fondly by his heartbroken family — his daughters Beverley and Kelly, sons-in-law Andrew and Steven, grandchildren Nathan, Joshua, Aidan, Todd and Carrie-Ann — along with his many friends and neighbours.

“He was a real gentleman, always a big wave when we met him on the road, and so kind to all of the children living here, with special treats at Halloween,” read one message of condolence.

Another tribute described him as a “wonderful neighbour,” adding, “He always had time for a chat. We’ll miss seeing him on his walks to the village and hearing his lovely British accent. He always had nice chocolate treats for the kids at Halloween, and we will very much miss knocking on his door. He was a true gentleman and a great character”

John’s funeral will take place at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan, on Friday, 24th October, at 2pm.

The house is strictly private and family flowers only.  Messages of sympathy for the family may be left here.
