Storm Éowyn left people without power for days in Leitrim
The ESB are working to map out the forestry danger zones that are causing 'repeated damage' across Leitrim, a meeting heard recently.
David Minton, director of services, said that Leitrim County Council had a meeting with the senior regional ESB team during which, they also confirmed that 'storm response' workshop will take place in council buildings in January. "Firstly to note, on the 26 January, there will be a workshop with the ESB in the council chamber to look at storm response in Leitrim. Also, I hope to have an update at the next meeting, trying to map out those key routes where there are forestry/hedgerow issues in relation to storms. They are working with us to map out those critical red paths across the county causing repeated damage."

It was revealed after Cllr Brendan Barry raised the issue at the start of a meeting in Ballinamore where he noted: "There is a lot of talk about generators etc. but what I find frustrating is all the trees that fell during Storm Éowyn and trees are being replanted again in the exact same places. There is no chance, I don't see, of them retrospectively being ripped at again. The government and forest service needs to widen those corridors before they are replanted."
