Lough Rynn
"I just don't know why we cannot join those lights - Mohill should be joined to the Lough Rynn amenity centre and it's essential. I don't care how we get the money," was the opinion of Cllr Enda Stenson at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon MD meeting.
He was one of two Leitrim councillors who asked about lighting between Mohill and Lough Rynn at a recent meeting
Cllr Enda Stenson had asked if any progress on finding a funding stream that would enable the lighting up the "short stretch of road between Mohill and Lough Rynn" had been identified and was advised that the District Office will "employ the services of a certified ecologist to carry out an ecological assessment of the effects of lighting in this location. Should lighting up this area be found to be acceptable from an ecological point of view, Leitrim County Council will endeavour to find a funding stream to progress this."
Cllr Stenson continued: "It's not very far and the landowners are happy to get this done ASAP. We are always being asked about it and it's an issue that needs to be dealt with."

At the same meeting, Cllr Sean McGowan asked about lighting from Mohill "to link up with the new footpath and lighting that was developed in the past couple of years that serves the extremely busy Caravan Park at Lough Rynn. The first section of this road from Mohill currently has no public lighting and it is dangerous for the many pedestrians using the footpath at night-time."
He added: "It's a very well used walking route but it's dangerous for pedestrians walking at night and we are getting emails and Whataspp message etc. about it."
Cllr Maeve Reynolds supported the motion and said that it needed "to be priortised; I welcome that footpaths are being improved but could we look at solar lighting if possible?"
Cllr Cormac Flynn also supported the motion: "As a school, we couldn't use those paths for our walks or runs because kids had to go on the road, the paths were that bad."
