This morning has brought snow and icy conditions to much of Leitrim, with a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in effect until 9am tomorrow, Tuesday, January 6.
A number of schools across the county have been forced to close due to difficult travel conditions. These closures include Glenfarne NS, Drumkeeran NS, Drumlease NS, St Brigid’s NS, St Joseph’s NS, St Clare’s Comprehensive School, Lough Allen College, Drumshanbo Vocational School, and Mohill Community College.
Drivers and commuters are being urged to exercise extreme caution as the first cold snap of the year takes hold.
The cold snap is bringing wintry showers, with some snow accumulation, along with severe frost and icy patches in places, leading to hazardous travel conditions and reduced visibility.
