Traffic calming sought for 'safety of children' in Leitrim village

An update was sought on traffic calming measures for Dromahair at the recent Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting

A low cost safety scheme will be provided at Dromahair amid concerns of speed limits in the village, it has been confirmed. 

Cllr Mary Bohan (FF) asked for an update on traffic calming measures for Dromahair at the recent Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting.

The Roads Department of Leitrim County Council replied, "A low cost safety scheme will be carried out on the approaches to the Village in 2026". 

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Cllr Bohan said that “the need for traffic calming measures in Dromahair has been an issue for some time.”

At the meeting, Cllr Bohan was told that the traffic calming measures are currently “at design stage.”

“Some motorists are not abiding to the speed limits in the village. There is also an issue in regards the safety of children. I have had residents contacting me in relation to these issues,” she stated.

Having received an assurance from the council that a safety scheme will be put in place, Cllr Bohan is hopeful that “this work will take place in the first half of 2026.”
