Ballinglera welcome sign was destroyed by a vehicle that drove into it
A Leitrim councillor has asked that the Leitrim County Council replace the 'Welcome to Ballinaglera' sign on the Dowra side entering Ballinaglera, beside the entrance to the GAA park that was destroyed by a vehicle.
Cllr Enda McGloin also asked that a safety assessment be conducted on the hedging and drain along the road at St Hugh's Park saying he believed that "currently this area is a health and safety concern."
Cllr McGloin said: "There is a village improvement committee in Ballinaglera and they had an old sign that was there for many years which said 'Welcome to Ballinaglera' as Gaeilge. Somebody drove into it and damaged it and it was strewn across the ditch so they were anxious it was restored as it was a nice feature."
The official response said the council will maintain the current blue welcome signs to the towns and villages with the
district. "We can assess the area of concern adjacent the public road at McHugh Park in Ballinaglera," it concluded.
