ESB Science Blast, delivered by the RDS, is a free educational programme which actively encourages child-led investigation and scientific discovery. Cecilia Casey from ESB Wind Operations and Phil Smyth, broadcaster and award‑winning scientist, recently delivered engaging workshops for students from 2nd to 6th class at Saint Brigid’s National School in Drumkeeran, Co. Leitrim.
The sessions helped pupils explore topics they’re curious about and consider how these interests could spark scientific investigations. By offering guidance and inspiration, ESB aims to empower students to think like young scientists and develop their own unique questions for ESB Science Blast.

The initiative is non-competitive and aims to address inequities in STEM education by ensuring equal access for all students, with a 50/50 gender participation and a core focus on DEIS schools and Gaelscoileanna participation.
ESB Science Blast takes place in the RDS, Simmonscourt, Dublin from 2nd – 5th March.
