John McGahern
A night in honour of the Leitrim writer John McGahern will be held at the Iron Mountain Literature Festival in the Dock this year.
Marking twelve years since his death, the night will include readings and shared memories of the celebrated Leitrim writer, who penned such books as Amongst Women and That They Might Face the Rising Sun.
The latter received renewed critical acclaim in recent years following its adaptation into an award-winning movie in 2023.
The night will include discussions of his work and legacy with special guests Broadcaster and author Myles Dungan, celebrated actor Jane Brennan and author Sinead Gleeson. The evening will be presented by festival director, writer and broadcaster Vincent Woods.

Sinead Gleeson is a broadcaster, essayist and critic, and Irish Book Award winner with her essay collection ‘Constellations’. She is also the editor of a number of literary anthologies.
Myles Dungan is a historian, host of The History Show on RTÉ Radio 1, and is an adjunct lecturer and Fulbright scholar in the School of History and Archives, UCD.
Jane Brennan is a Dublin-born actor who won the IFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘Brooklyn’. On television, she is known for The Tudors, Striking Out, Bloodlands, and her lead role in Hidden Assets.
Tickets are on sale for the event, which will take place at 8 pm on Friday the 27th of March.
