Over €600,000 in will be made available to people in Leitrim to retrofit social homes under the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme (EERP).
The scheme is aimed at providing grants of between €1000 and €4000 to county councils to carry out works on social housing that make their homes more energy efficient.
Nationally, around €140 million will be invested in retrofitting approximately 3,500 social homes during 2026, according to the Department.
Leitrim County Council will receive €668,000 under this year's programme, while Sligo receive €1.6 million and Donegal receives €10.6 million - the second highest in the country.

In Leitrim there were 1,454 properties upgraded under National Retrofit Plan the between 2019 and 2024.
Welcoming the funding, Minister Harkin Sligo-Leitirm TD and Minister of State for Further Education, Apprenticeship, Construction and Climate Skills, highlighted the investment being delivered for communities across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
“This funding is extremely welcome and will make a real difference to social housing tenants across the North West.”
