New figures reveal a drop in passport applications overall in 2025, while Leitrim see over 3000 new passports issued in the year.
There were 3,652 passports issued in Leitrim in 2025, which was the least in the North-West.
Donegal had the most documents issued in the North-West with 18,821, followed by Sligo with 7,617, Longford had 4,596 issued, and 7,569 in Roscommon.
Overall, the number of passport applications fell by 12% last year from 1,061,629 to 933,121. The number of accepted applications is not available nationwide.

Adult Irish passports are valid for ten years, while passports for under-18s last five.
Meanwhile, the data, which was obtained by TG4 through a Freedom of Information request, shows that applications from Irish citizens living outside the State jumped by almost 35% or 69,468 in 2025.
From the almost one million applications made to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs in 2025, only 302, or 0.03%, were made through the Irish language.
Dublin had the highest number of passports issued, with 165,430, followed by Cork on 64,559.

Passports were replaced for a variety of reasons, including expiration. While 5,222 were replaced with damaged documents, 32,230 passports were lost, and 2,712 were stolen.
32 passports were revoked due to fraud, while there was a total of 39 applicants who were refused a passport in 2025.
