Accumulating seven penalty points while driving on a novice licence results in automatic disqualification from driving.

In a post on Facebook, An Garda Síochána Sligo Leitrim said,

“Sligo Leitrim Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks this morning when they detected a driver travelling at 154 kph in a 100 zone. When stopped the driver was found to be a Novice driver.

"A driver who passed their driving test will be deemed a novice driver for a period of two years and will be disqualified from driving if they accumulate 7 penalty points. 3 points and a €160 fine issued to this driver today. SPEED KILLS!”
