Funding of €5 million has been announced for fire station works in Leitrim with €3.1 million allocated to build a new fire station in Manorhamilton and a further €2 million to refurbish the fire station in Carrick-on-Shannon.
In addition, Leitrim County Council has been allocated a new €500,000 Class B fire appliance, as part of the capital funding plan for fire services nationwide.
It comes as the Government announced a record €328.5 million Fire Services Capital Programme designed to modernise fire services nationwide. This investment covers the period from 2026 to 2030 and focuses on enhancing infrastructure, updating the fire fleet, and improving emergency response capabilities
Approximately €178.6 million will be invested in building or refurbishing 39 fire stations across the country over the next five years and €86.9 million has been allocated for the national fire fleet, ensuring firefighters have access to modern, reliable appliances.

The programme aims to strengthen the ability of fire services to respond to increased severe weather events, wildfires, industrial hazards, and complex infrastructure incidents.
