The committee of the Cartron/Eslin School reunion wish to thank the many people who helped to make the Reunion Weekend such a great success. The festivities started with a brilliant concert in St Mary’s Church Eslin. Special thanks to the artists who performed on the Thursday night. The Leitrim Male Choir got the concert off to a wonderful start. Fionnuala Maxwell who performed some local ballads and some of her own compositions which went down a treat. Gerry Bohan , Noel Carberry and Sean McCabefor some excellent traditional music and our own Gerry Moran who gave wonderful renditions of two well known ballads .The special guest on the night was Eleanor Shanley accompanied by John McCartin on guitar and they entertained the large crowd with a memorable and most enjoyable show. Thanks also to M.C. Joe Reynolds and special thanks to Fr. Pat Murphy for allowing the use of the Church for the concert. Thanks to Thomás Beirne for providing the Marquee for displaying the roll books and memorabilia and to the Ladies Club and Eslin GAA for their help and co-operation. Many events took place in the Community Centre, thanks to the Community Centre Committee for having the centre in such good shape for the events. The Committee really appreciate the support of The Rural Social Scheme and which did a lot of work in the area prior to the concert and in particular Micheal and Michael Reynolds for all their efforts and Leitrim County Council which also helped tidy up locally. Many thanks also to Lena and James Mc Manus ,Eslin Catering, for providing wonderful refreshments over the weekend, Thanks to Therese Foy for all her time taking photos and recording the weekend and to Leitrim Observer and Shannonside Radio for their coverage of the events before and after the weekend. Thanks to David Wynne for videoing the events on Sunday and to John Moffatt of King and Moffatt ,Ck-on –Shannon for providing large screen TV for the Community Centre: Brian Kennedy of Glenview Folk Museum for supplying memorabilia including school desk and maps which were popular items during the weekend:and Brendan Turbett for allowing access to Cartron School . On Friday night a large crowd attended the Book Launch ‘Memories from Cartron and Eslin Schools’in the Bush Hotel . Thanks to Joe Dolan and Staff for a wonderful meal. Thanks to Bishop Emeritus Colm O’Reilly for launching the Book, to Book Editor Fr. John Kilcrann and to Master of Ceremonies Enda Stenson for their presentations on the night. On Sunday a Mass was offered in Cavan Church, Eslin for all past pupils of the schools and all those gone to their Eternal Reward were remembered. Thanks to Mohill Parish Choir , Fr. John Kilcrann , Fr. Kieran O’Flynn and Fr. Pat Murphy and all other participants for contributing and enhancing the ceremonies on Sunday.
