The Leitrim Observer is proud to present the Leitrim Almanac 2017. The Leitrim Almanac celebrates the achievements and successes of the people of Leitrim during the year, as well as taking a nostalgic look back at the past.

We have collated a treasure trove of articles, profiles and pictures spanning the length and breadth of the county which, we believe, will be of great interest to all who peruse this special edition.

There are features on some of the significant happenings in Leitrim during the year including a look back at all the main news events that have taken place.

We also remember the contribution of some notable personalities who passed to their eternal reward during the year, including Dermot Gallagher, Fr. Tom Colreavy, Luke Early, Joe Flynn, Mick Woods and Brendan Canning.
Looking back to the past, we recall the Sligo Leitrim & Northern Counties Railway which closed 60 years ago.

We also recount the incredible story of Kathleen Lynch who founded the Rosary High School in Carrick-on-Shannon and gave secondary education to generations of young people. Also contained within these pages are picture galleries of some of the weddings of 2017.

On the sporting front John Connolly runs the rule over who to watch out for in 2018 across a variety of disciplines, as well as a special focus on the football and athletics scenes. Elsewhere, local writers and photographers have shared some of their work with us.

We believe that there's something for everyone and hope that you thoroughly enjoy it.
