A committee has been set up in Ballintogher with a view to providing an AED Defibrillator for the village.
Committee member Thomas Walsh said "every village, school, clubhouse and public meeting place should have a working defibrillator in place. Using an AED immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can increase the chance of survival by more than 90%. The survival rate is reduced by approximately 10% for each minute that defibrillation is delayed."
Joint Chairperson of the newly formed committee Brona Taaffe, said, "We currently have no defibrillator in Ballintogher and it is vital that we have one in place as soon as possible. A site has been chosen for the AED and a number of fundraising initiatives are under way."
Anyone who wishes to donate can do so by contacting a committee member or via the online Go Fund Me page at www.gofundme.com /ballintogher-defib-working-group
