Concerns raised about the impact of Eirgrid pylons

Fáilte Ireland has expressed concerns about the impact of overhead pylons on certain key tourism assets and amenities.

Fáilte Ireland has expressed concerns about the impact of overhead pylons on certain key tourism assets and amenities.

Eirgrid have published a preferred route for their lines which will travel from North Mayo to Flagford just outside of Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Roscommon.

In reply to a Parliamentary Question from Fianna Fáil, the tourism body said the landscape and cultural heritage of certain sites in the vicinity of proposed Pylons “could potentially be at risk.”

Boyle County Councillor Rachel Doherty has described it as “a significant intervention by Fáilte Ireland and it must be taken seriously.” It comes as Fianna Fáil puts down a Dáil motion calling for an independent international assessment of Eirgrid’s plans.

“These concerns cannot be ignored. Eirgrid must explain what consideration it has given to the threat posed by its pylon plans to some of our key tourist attractions, “ she stated.

Dail Eireann are debating the FF motion calling for an independent assessment by international experts of Eirgrid’s plans this week.
