A wide-ranging proposal includes a community gym, training field, padel courts, walkway and clubhouse upgrades.

A Leitrim GAA club has lodged an extensive planning application seeking permission for a number of new sports and community facilities.

The application, lodged by Leitrim Gaels Community Development on July 9, seeks retention of unauthorised development carried out under previous planning permissions, comprising two existing storage units, an Astro Pitch with associated perimeter fencing and an extended vehicular access route, and ball stop posts and nets at the main pitch.

Permission is also being sought to convert the first floor of the existing clubhouse from general storage to community use, along with associated alterations to the façades to facilitate the installation of a proposed lift, stairs, external door and roof windows.

The application further includes the construction of a detached single-storey building to the west of the existing clubhouse comprising a community gymnasium, changing rooms and associated signage, as well as a new training field complete with associated floodlighting, ball stop nets and posts.

The plans also include the reconstruction of the former cottage for use as ancillary storage, the construction of a grassed nursery training area, the erection of two 20m x 10m padel courts at the western end of the existing car park, the construction of a car parking area to the north-east of the site, a community walkway, a digital scoreboard to serve the existing playing field, new floodlighting for the existing Astro Pitch, revised site boundaries from those permitted under a previous planning application, and associated site works and services.

A decision is expected to be made by Leitrim County Council by September 2 this year.
