Funding has been granted for a large extension to St Clare’s Comprehensive in Manorhamilton.
The extension to the school comprises three mainstream classrooms, one Design Computer Graphics Room, one Multimedia room, one Art Room, one Science lab, one Prep Area and one Special education classroom
Deputy Frank Feighan, TD for Sligo-Leitrim, warmly welcomed the announcement under the additional accommodation scheme.
The additional accommodation scheme is a Government initiative to provide essential classroom space to meet the needs of enrolled students.
St Clare’s Comprehensive, which has over 500 students, previously added extensions to the school in 2013 and 2018.
“This is a significant investment in the future of St Clare’s to allow the school to accommodate more pupils and for children who require special education and the opportunity to study graphics and art,” Deputy Feighan said.
“This is great news for the School Principal, the Board of Management alongside the pupils and their parents and I want to congratulate the team involved in the application.
“The exact funding amount will be held back to allow a competitive tendering process that I hope can get underway as soon as tender documents are completed,” he added.
“I hope that all the necessary preparatory work can be completed in a timely fashion to ensure the work on the ground can start before the end of 2025.”
