Main Street, Mohill

Community groups in Mohill are being invited to submit proposals for vacant buildings or land open under the 2025 Town and Village Funding scheme.

This initiative allows local authorities to purchase derelict or vacant properties within eligible towns or villages for redevelopment into multi-purpose community spaces.

Leitrim County Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for this scheme, which is open until April 16.

At April’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Enda Stenson raised the possibility of the local authority acquiring one of the derelict buildings on Main Street in Mohill, for conversion into a community hub.

He noted the urgent need for such a space, highlighting that local groups, including the Scouts, have no base to work from.

Cllr Stenson said he had spoken with residents in Mohill and was aware of three premises that may be available. He urged that one of the derelict buildings be considered for reuse.

In response, the Economic Development section confirmed that “The Building or Land Acquisition Measure (B/LAM) is currently open under the 2025 Town and Village Funding to allow local authorities to purchase derelict or vacant buildings and/or land within eligible towns or villages for redevelopment into multi-purpose community spaces.”

Community Groups are invited to submit proposals under this measure by submitting the Expression of Interest Form to funding@leitrimcoco.ie.

Leitrim County Council will consider EOIs that identify potential quality projects with “sustainable, achievable and definitive end uses.”

However, as this is a competitive process, Leitrim County Council also reserves the right “not to proceed with this Scheme in the event that the EOIs do not identify projects with sustainable, achievable and definitive end uses.”
