About 700,000 euro of suspected cannabis and cocaine and a firearm with ammunition have been seized during a search in Co Meath.

The search was conducted on Wednesday as part of Operation Tara, the national anti-drugs strategy, which aims to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels involved in the importation, production and local sale of controlled drugs.

Gardai from the Meath Divisional Drugs Unit, with assistance from the Trim and Navan detective units, searched a property in the Summerhill area.

About 600,000 euro of suspected cannabis and 100,000 euro of suspected cocaine were seized.

A semi-automatic pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition were also recovered.

The drugs and the gun will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland and the Garda Ballistics Unit for analysis.

Garda investigations are ongoing.
