Aldi has issued an urgent recall of all batches of a range of popular tortilla wraps due to the possible presence of metal pieces
In an alert, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, confirmed that "all best before dates of Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White are being recalled".
The product is produced by a supplier in the UK and a similar alert has been issued by the Food Standards Agency there.
The recall takes immediate effect and the FSAI says investigations are underway as the product "may have been tampered with."
Any consumers who may have bought the product are advised not to eat it.
Recall notices have been put on display in Aldi stores across Ireland and the UK and all manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers and retailers have been asked to remove the product from sale.
According to media reports in the UK, a police investigation is underway to establish the source of the contamination.
