A lorry driver is facing prosecution after they were caught speeding close to a small primary school in County Kilkenny.

Highlighting the detection on social media, gardai say members of the local Roads Policing Unit detected the vehicle travelling at 77km/h in a 50km/h zone in the middle of the day.

The incident happened on the R448 near the village of Paulstown, close to the Kilkenny/Carlow border, earlier this week.

"Speed is a big factor for road traffic collisions and lorry drivers have a greater responsibility, proceedings have commenced," read the post.

Further details of the incident have not been disclosed publicly given that proceedings have been initiated.

Reacting to the post on Facebook, one user commented: "National road and his max speed limit is 80kph. shocking behaviour."
