Early last month, Eoin Leydon O’Connor published Rural Tales, his first ever collection of short stories on Amazon. Which as far as he is concerned, has been on his to-do list since he was a child.
Having studied a Bachelor of Arts in Writing & Literature and a Masters in Creative Practice at ATU Sligo, Eoin has always had a flare for fiction and reading. Born and raised in Strandhill, Sligo, most of his upbringing around the Atlantic lends itself to inspiration for his work.
As a child, he always wanted to write fiction, becoming fascinated with the concept of being able to create whole worlds with just a pen and paper. The short story was his go to, allowing him to write fast and edit quickly.
Eoin always wanted to publish his own work and try to find an audience for it. Being a fan of sci-fi, horror, fantasy and the supernatural, his own fiction tended to take on those genres. As is the case with the eight short stories published in this collection.
The variety of each story is something that Eoin is proud of. He said ‘’With a collection like this, you can experiment with different genres, styles and themes to each story. I’m happy to have each of them be distinct in their own right. Some of them can be quite dark, while others have a lighter, more compassionate tone to them. I always like to balance those two.’’
