According to ESB Networks, as of 2:00 pm on Monday, approximately 630 customers in Leitrim remained without power due to the effects of Storm Ashley. The storm, which brought Orange- and Yellow-level winds, caused widespread disruption across the country. At its peak on Sunday, around 1,600 customers in Leitrim experienced power outages. ESB Networks reported that most customers were expected to have their power restored by the end of Monday, 21st, though a small number were likely to remain without power overnight.
Crews worked late into Sunday night and resumed efforts early Monday morning to restore power. ESB Networks has apologized for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience, particularly those affected overnight. Real-time updates on power restoration can be accessed at www.PowerCheck.ie. Nationally, about 53,000 homes, farms, and businesses were still without power the following day, with the hardest-hit counties including Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, and Dublin. Leitrim, in comparison, fared better than many of its western neighbors.
Kieran Brett of Leitrim County Council noted that the fire department has also been actively responding to storm-related incidents, such as clearing fallen trees and addressing minor road obstructions. Cleanup efforts are ongoing as teams work to resolve any outstanding issues. Residents who rely on electrically powered medical devices are encouraged to make alternative arrangements in case power restoration takes longer than anticipated. Safety remains a top priority, and the public is urged to steer clear of downed power lines and report any damage by contacting ESB Networks’ emergency line at 1800 372 999.
