A call has been made for urgent repairs to the L6001 at Tullaghan, where poor road conditions are increasing vehicle wear and tear.

A road in North Leitrim has been described as a “safety hazard,” with its deteriorating condition causing damage to vehicles.

Cllr James Gilmartin raised concerns about the condition of the L6001 at Wardhouse, Tullaghan, during October’s meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, calling for resurfacing and repair works to be carried out by the Council.

In his motion, Cllr Gilmartin noted that the road, which runs parallel to the N15, has deteriorated considerably, with numerous potholes and sections of broken surfacing creating difficulties for road users.

“The poor road surface presents a safety hazard, increases wear and tear on vehicles and is causing understandable frustration for residents and motorists who use this route regularly.

“I ask that the Council assess the road as a matter of priority and allocate the necessary funding to restore it to a safe and accessible standard for all users,” his motion stated.

In response, the Council confirmed that the District Engineer for the MD will review the location to determine whether it is suitable for inclusion in the 2028 - 2031 Road Works programme.

In the interim, all relevant road maintenance will be carried out.
