Fuinneogí Frames launched by Moyne Community School students

A group of first year students in Moyne Community School have recently launched an innovative range of picture frames.

Led by Ronan Larkin and using old pvc windows and the off-cuts from the window manufacturing process, the students can produce frames made to any size from 350mm X 350mm upwards.

The other students in the group are Emma McQuaid, David Masterson and Michelle McGee.

The idea started during a first year Business Studies taster module, Ronan explained.

Mr. Doherty, our Business Studies teacher was introducing us to the Student Enterprise Awards and suggesting areas where potential product ideas could be found. Sustainability and recycling of materials is an important topic in the new Junior Cycle Business Studies course.

"I come from a family involved in window manufacturing and I immediately thought of the skip at the back of the workshop," said Ronan.

It wasn’t long before Fuinneogí Frames was up and running. After setting up displays at the school open night and all parent teacher meetings the orders started rolling in. The larger the frame, the easier it is to make using the window making machinery in the business workshop.

So far Fuinneogí have framed large posters and maps, produced notice boards to order and delivered on a very special order to design a frame capable of displaying a double sided jigsaw.

With the capability of making very large frames at affordable prices, the students hope to expand the industrial side of the business with orders from factories and other commercial premises with lots of wall space and big things that need hanging up!

The students will be taking part in the Longford final of the Student Enterprise Awards, organised by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO), which takes place in the Longford Arms Hotel on Thursday, March 21st.

Fuinneogí Frames can be contacted through Larkin Windows & Doors, Ballinamuck, Co. Longford (043) 3324047 or Moyne Community School (049) 4335114.
