Silver medal for Cormac at McCullagh International Gala

Silver medal for Cormac at McCullagh International Gala

Trident Swim Club had a busy but exciting weekend at the McCullagh International gala in Bangor. We had four swimmers who had made the qualification standard, Phoebe Lynott, Conor Lanigan and brothers Eoghan and Cormac Rynn.

The event had swim teams from across  England, Scotland, Wales and France as well as the swim team from the high performance centres in Ulster, Dublin and Limerick. It was great to have our swimmers competing at such a prestigious event.

Day one started well with all three boys qualifying for Finals - Conor for the 200m Butterfly, Eoghan for the 50m Backstroke and Cormac for the 100m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly.

Day 2 saw qualifications for Conor, Eoghan and Cormac. Phoebe swam her 800m freestyle in the afternoon session and the boys were back again for the finals session in the evening.

This time we had two swimmers in the 400 Individual medley (IM) finals, Conor and Cormac, Cormac had a terrific swim and held off stiff competition to take the silver medal. Eoghan had a great race in the 100m Backstroke final. Cormac didn't have too long to celebrate because he was back in the pool for the 200m breaststroke final.

Day 3 saw more great swimming from the Trident Boys in the morning sessions to qualify for finals in the evening.400m freestyle and 200 IM for Cormac, 200 Backstroke for Eoghan and 100m Butterfly for Conor.

A great weekend of racing with lots of great PB's and a renewed enthusiasm to come home and train hard. Well done swimmers, your coaches are proud of all the effort you put into your training so that you can have these great swim meets.

Thanks to all the organisers and officials who make this all possible.
