Mohill Ladies have secured their spot in the Lonleitros Top 4 Finals on the weekend of March 24-26, with a game in hand.
Mohill and Sligo All Stars will play their last round game on Sunday March 19, with the game deciding the top two positions in the table while Longford Phoenix II, Boyle and Castlerea Cavaliers are battling it out for the remaining two places in the top four finals event.
Mohill have been on fire this year with 10 convincing wins and one narrow four point defeat to Sligo All Stars. The depth of the squad this year means Mohill have never been found short and the intensity of play has been too much for most teams to deal with.
Mohill have had exceptionally high scoring games this season and this is due to the accuracy of their outside shooting. That said, Mohill’s fast breaks are one of their strong points too and this is something the other competing teams will be very aware of as the league comes to a close.
Captain Caoimhe McGuinness leads by example and is Mohill’s top scorer with an impressive 23.4 point average. Jasmine Reynolds and Odharnaith McGuinness are not far behind that average and supporters have been treated to some exemplary three pointers from these two players.
Mohill have great height and strength under the board with Chloe Dolan and newcomer Aishling Leahy. Kiara Keegan and Kate McGuinness’ ball handling skills have stood out creating many turnovers in defence.
Lorraine Butler, Sarah Mulligan and Aifric Madden offer good experience under the boards while Ellen McGuinness, Heather Dugdale and Erica Fortune are versatile players with the ability to take outside shots and drive to the board.
Mohill will have a home advantage for Top 4 Finals weekend as it has just been announced that the finals will be held in Topline Mohill Community Sports Hub.
The finals weekend looks very exciting and a Mohill Mavericks v Sligo All Stars final looks like the most likely outcome.
